    Denise Wallace Spooner humbly embodies the quest for excellence in education and service to all mankind. She has always been dedicated to education for all students, which also includes adult education. Presently, she represents Beaumont by serving as BISD school board Trustee At-Large and former Board Vice President. Mrs. Spooner was elected in May of 2017 and was one of the first elected trustees to be seated by Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath after a state takeover February 15, 2018. This appointment marked the beginning of the return of local control, which will always be a part of the educational history of BISD. Denise was re-elected in May 2019 for an additional four years which ends in 2023. 

     

    Mrs. Spooner is a lifelong native of Beaumont, Texas. She is was born in the late 1950s when the buzzword “teen-after” was newly coined, growing up in a time of teen rebellion, rock and roll, the civil rights movement with the first attempts to desegregate schools in the South, artists were in search of their individual self in a culture that promoted being conformed. This movement caused Trustee Spooner to become a resilient woman, always pressing forward in changing times like the nation is facing today.

     

    As a child, she loved learning, and because she was the oldest sibling in her family being a leader was always part of her destiny. Denise Wallace Spooner graduated from Hebert High School in the Class of 1975, while attending Hebert she participated in various extracurricular activities and clubs; cheerleading, choir, Spanish club and Future Teachers of America were at the top of her favorites list. She takes pride in living up to the schools motto, “ Whatever Hebert Does Must Be the Best!”

     

    Denise Wallace Spooner post-secondary education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood / Elementary Education  from Lamar University, Master of Education degree in Educational Administration with Mid-Management Administration specialization from Prairie View A&M University, various certifications and professional development training/ teacher trainer through throughput her 30 + years as an educator. 

     

    Trustee Wallace Spooner continues to serve her community with a heart of gold in all facets of education, on any given day of the week Denise can be found working exemplifying the term Servant-Leader. Her work and accolades have encompassed a few of the following;
