Rezoning Workshop FAQ

  • What is rezoning?

  • What does this process involve? Do you have to redraw zoning lines?

  • Will my child’s school change?

  • How will the district determine how this is done?

  • When will any changes take effect?

  • Which students/families will be impacted?

  • Who makes the final decisions, and how are they made?

  • How can I give input on the proposed attendance zones?

  • Can the District make all parents happy when making zoning changes?

  • Do you plan to organize meetings with parents who do not speak or understand the English language?

  • Will BISD please consider a gradual “Step Into ReZoning” implementation? Begin with the Elementary schools, then as those students start to move to middle school, phase them in. Leaving the high schoolers to finish out where they started. This may help to lessen the need for unnecessary busing enough to make a difference in the need for buses and drivers, as well as help to decrease stress for students and parents.in the community.

  • Will the rezoning of the school districts allow children to go to their neighborhood schools?

  • How are the new zones going to be marked by named streets landmarks ect and are the amount of population in that zone going to be done to ensure an equal number of students going to each school/schools in that zone? How are the high schools going to be determined with there being only two major High Schools in Beaumont?

  • We live at XXXX Calder Avenue Beaumont Texas and my son is bussed all the way to Odom Academy when we have 2 middle schools that are closer. I would like to know why he is bussed all the way across town when he lives here.

  • Why doesn't the district verify the addresses of all students yearly? Other school districts, i.e., Katy ISD verifies every school year.

  • Can the high school students be grandfathered in their high school? They should be able to graduate with their friends and also if they tried out for a drum major or section leader in the band and got the position for the following school year they shouldn't have to change schools and lose that opportunity they tried out for and made. As well as dancers, cheerleading, football, or whatever else.

  • How will rezoning affect the elementary campuses?

  • It appears currently, at least at the high school level, that addresses used for enrollment are neither confirmed nor monitored on a regular basis. Will this change as part of the rezoning process? If not, it would appear a lot of time and resources will be spent for naught.

  • WHAT PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS AT (MARTIN LUTHER KING) HAVE FAILED AND IS THIS THE ONLY CRITIERIA BEING USED FOR SUPERINTENDEANT ALLEN TO USE AS A REASON FOR THE CLOSURE OF THE SCHOOL AND HOW MANY OTHER SCHOOLS IN THE WESTEND ARE FAILING AND WHAT IS THE PERCENTAGE FOR THOSE SCHOOLS ,AND ARE THERE ANY SCHOOL IN THAT AREA BEING CONSIDER FOR CLOSURE IF YES PLEASE PROVIDE INFORMATION.THANK YOU
