EMPLOYEE BENEFITS BASICS
Core Benefits Package
Did you know that the district provides a core benefits package to all full-time Beaumont ISD employees? This package consists of a $460 health insurance contribution per month toward participation in any Beaumont ISD offered BCBS plan, a $10,000 basic life insurance policy, and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
Employees may decline health insurance coverage if they have other coverage through a spouse, parent, or other health insurance plan.
Upon hire, full-time employees are automatically enrolled with a $10,000 basic life insurance policy. During enrollment, be sure to complete your beneficiary designation for your $10,000 basic life insurance policy. Beneficiary elections may be changed at any time throughout the plan year.
Full-time employees are also automatically enrolled in the EAP. The district’s EAP is a program that provides confidential professional help to get you through what might be affecting your mental or physical well-being. Services include mental health sessions, life coaching, financial consultation, legal consultation, work-life resources and referrals, personal assistant, and medical advocacy. Coverage for employees who have a spouse or dependents who also work for the district will have their coverage combined into one account.
Name Beneficiaries
Beneficiary elections are a critical part of enrollment, providing for your loved ones upon your death. Policies such as life insurance, cancer, accident, and critical illness require a beneficiary election. Completing your beneficiary election ensures the proceeds of your policy(ies) are directed according to your wishes, avoiding the unnecessary cost and effort of probating your estate. Beneficiaries can include family members, loved ones, trusts, non-relatives, charities, and more.
Be sure to complete your beneficiary elections during enrollment. Beneficiary designations can be changed throughout the plan year without a Qualifying Life Event by logging into ThebenefitsHUB and updating your beneficiary elections. Or, you may contact anyone on the BISD Benefits Team to help you update your beneficiary designations
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
In 2025, Flexible Spending Accounts allow participants to elect up to:
- $3,300 annually for qualified medical expenses, and/or
- $5,000 maximum per household for Dependent Care
FSAs offer tax savings by allowing you to set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible healthcare and dependent care expenses. This means you contribute to your FSA and/or Dependent Care FSA with money that isn’t subject to income tax, potentially reducing your taxable income and payroll taxes.
Participant medical FSA accounts are preloaded with their annual election in early September, and funds can be spent throughout the plan year until August 31st.
Consider your FSA elections carefully, as unused medical FSA funds over $610 will be forfeited in 2025, and over $660 in 2026. Participants have 90 days, or until November 30th, to request reimbursement for qualified medical expenses. There is no rollover provision for unused Dependent Care elections. Use it or lose it.
Participants can check their FSA balance by creating an account or logging in here to Higginbotham’s Flex Services portal. Once there, you may file a claim, view account balance and summary information, sign up for FREE direct deposit, get email notifications, and more!
