What's New And Changing For Voluntary Benefits
Eastex Curate Urgent Care Membership
Eastex Curate is partnering with Beaumont ISD to provide a membership program for voluntary urgent care services beginning September 1, 2025. Eastex Curate is NOT a replacement for health insurance. Eastex Curate can be elected regardless of participation in the district’s BCBS health insurance plan. Depending on the tier selected, participants will pay between $65 to $130 per month with a limit of 10 clinic visits per month. Click here.
Clinic visits are not subject to a copay and cover medical and health-related services, which are generally within the scope of walk-in, urgent, or acute care services. Employees who elect Eastex Curate will be responsible for non-covered services such as third-party lab testing, imaging that is provided outside of Eastex Urgent Care, visits exceeding 10 or more per month, and more. Membership is not available to beneficiaries of Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, TriCare, or any other state or federal government healthcare program. Newborns or infants under the age of six (6) months are not eligible for membership.
5Star Life Insurance replaces Texas Life Insurance
On September 1, 2025, 5Star Life Insurance will be added to the district’s current life insurance offerings. During 2025 Open Enrollment, 5Star Family Protection Plan individual life insurance policies will be guaranteed issue for up to $150,000 for employees, $30,000 for spouses, and $10,000 or $20,000 for dependent children. Premiums lock at the age of election and are portable when you leave the district, with no change in premium rates or benefits.
5Star will “take over” Texas Life grandfathered life insurance policies. Employees who currently have grandfathered Texas Life policies will receive communication from 5Star with instructions and options for a takeover of their Texas Life Insurance policy. If you do not receive information from 5Star, please contact anyone on the BISD Benefits Team for help.
Recuro Health replaces MDLive as BISD's telehealth provider

Recuro Health features 24/7/365 services with a $0 copay for unlimited virtual urgent care for all dependents, and unlimited behavioral health virtual consultations for all dependents ages 14 and up. Vision Premiums Increasing 5%
United Healthcare has been Beaumont ISD’s vision provider since 2015, and has never issued a premium rate increase. Effective September 1, 2025, vision premiums will rise 5%, but will be guaranteed for 4 years. Plan benefits will remain the same. Every 12 months, participants are eligible for an eye exam and will receive a $150 allowance for frames or contacts in lieu of glasses. Lens options covered in full in-network:
- Standard single vision, lined bifocal, lined trifocal, lenticular
- Polycarbonate lenses for dependents to age 19
- Standard scratch coat
Warby Parker services are included with United Healthcare Vision, which allows participants to try on frames virtually or receive 5 frames of your choice sent to your home to try on for 5 days. Upload a picture of your lens prescription, and glasses will be delivered to your home.
United Healthcare ID cards are optional and not issued automatically, but may be obtained by creating an HSID login at myuhcvision.com
Disability Enhancement
New York Life remains the district’s disability carrier. Employees can elect up to 66.67% of their regular earnings and select between elimination (waiting) periods of 0/7, 14/14, 30/30, and 60/60 days.
Beginning September 1, 2025, New York Life will offer limited benefits for pre-existing conditions. Subject to a three-month lookback from effective date of coverage (June, July or August if effective September 1st), new hires or first-time enrollees in disability who go out on leave during the first 12 months of coverage due to a pre-existing condition may still receive up to four weeks of disability benefits after satisfying their chosen elimination period. The plan calls for a first-day hospitalization benefit for those who elected elimination (waiting) periods of 30 days or less.
Disability is an important benefit because it protects your income and financial stability in the event of injury or illness that prevents you from working. It provides a safety net, replacing a portion of your lost income, allowing you to maintain your lifestyle and meet financial obligations during recovery.
