The R.E.A.L. Program
Welcome to Work-Based Learning (WBL)
"Work-Based Learning is where it gets REAL"
The R.E.A.L. Program offers Real Experience and Learning. Work-Based Learning courses specific for CTE are Career Preparation and Practicum.
What is Career Preparation?
Grade: 12 | Credits: 3
Prerequisite: Successful completion of one or more advanced career and technical education courses that are part of a coherent sequence of courses in a Career Cluster related to the field in which the student will be employed.
Extended Career Preparation provides opportunities for students to participate in a work-based learning experience that combines classroom instruction with business and industry employment experiences. Experiences may be paid or unpaid. The goal is to prepare students with a variety of skills for a changing workplace. Career Preparation is relevant and rigorous, supports student attainment of academic standards, and effectively prepares students for college and career success.
What is Practicum (Internship)?
Grade: 12 | Credits: 2
Practicum is the Level 4 course within a CTE Program of Study consisting of practical work in a particular field.
- Practicum courses are double-blocked classes (2 periods). Internship experiences may be paid or unpaid.
Internship is a work-based learning (WBL) experience, and occurs in a variety of instructional settings; school-based labs, simulated work environment, or a Business & Industry Partner. While enrolled in the practicum course, students experience supervised, practical application of knowledge and skills within their program of study/career interest.
- Students could be paired with business and industry professionals via local partners for a mentoring experience at Training Station (worksite).
