For the first time in district history, the Beaumont Independent School District is hosting a regional gymnastics championship, and its student-athletes wasted no time delivering standout performances.

The 2026 Region II Gymnastics Championship opened April 1 at Beaumont United High School, where top gymnasts from across the region are competing for spots at the state meet. The two-day event marks a milestone for the district, highlighting the growth of its athletics program and expanding opportunities for student-athletes.

Beaumont United’s boys team set the tone early in Day 1 competition, particularly on floor exercise. Trevion Humphrey captured first place, while Nehemiah Levy followed closely behind in second.

Levy continued his strong showing on vault, earning first place with a 9.8. Humphrey and Aeden Symone remained competitive, tying for third with scores of 9.6.

“Day one is complete, and the work showed—nothing but pride in every routine,” said Beaumont United gymnastics coach Anthony Moore. “Today was about heart, effort, and showing up—we did all three.”

On the girls side, athletes from West Brook High School turned in strong performances across multiple events. Taraji Placide led on bars with a 9.9, while Amaya Harrison held fifth place with a 9.45.

BU’s Mallory Walker contributed with a 9.4 on floor exercise and added a 9.3 on beam. WB’s Autumn Boswell also stood out, placing fourth on vault with a 9.75.

In the all-around standings, Placide sits in second place with a 39.5, while Harrison ranks fifth with a 30.85.

“The scoreboard tells part of the story, but the effort told everything,” Moore said.

The meet includes competitors from eight additional schools across the region, including Rudder High School, Round Rock High School, Kingwood High School, A&M Consolidated High School, College Station High School and Calhoun High School.

Competition resumes April 2, with boys events beginning at 9:45 a.m. and girls events scheduled for 2 p.m., setting the stage for what organizers expect to be an exciting finish.

“Great performances all around—Day 2 is set up to be an exciting finish,” Moore said.
