Blanchette Students Hit All the Right Notes at Harmony Nursing Home

Blanchette Choir members in Santa hats prepare for a performance.

Holiday melodies filled Harmony Nursing Home as students from Blanchette Elementary continued a cherished tradition of service during their third annual community field trip. Bringing more than just music, students shared smiles, gifts and meaningful conversations with residents—turning a simple visit into a powerful lesson in compassion, connection and community.

The Blanchette choir sang seasonal carols, drawing smiles and applause from residents and staff. In addition to the musical performance, students representing the Student Council, National Education Honor Society and the Engineering program visited with residents and personally delivered blankets and socks as tokens of care and appreciation.

The visit provided students with an opportunity to step beyond the classroom and engage directly in community service, reinforcing lessons of compassion, leadership and civic responsibility. School leaders said the experience left a lasting impression on students while offering residents moments of joy and connection during the holiday season.

This was the third year for Student Council president Janiyah Hayes to participate in the field trip. "I am happy to give gifts out because people that need it the most are always so grateful,” the fifth-grader shared.

The event also included special guests who offered words of encouragement and prayer, including Pastor John R. Adolph and Deacon Louis Bryant of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, along with Beaumont City Councilman A. J. Turner.

Campus business partner Rogers Sorrell of 100 Black Men of Greater Beaumont, Inc. played a key role in supporting and leading the initiative, helping strengthen the school’s commitment to service learning and community engagement.

“This visit reflects the heart of Blanchette Elementary,” said Principal April M. Johnston. “Our students showed kindness, empathy and a genuine desire to serve, making this experience meaningful for everyone involved.”
