Bridging the Gap: LIT Program Helps Students Engineer a Head Start in STEM

Flier for LIT STEM Summer Bridge Program
For the class of 2026 Beaumont ISD high school graduates, the Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) is offering an exclusive opportunity to jumpstart their college journey and explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The LIT STEM Summer Bridge Program, scheduled for July 2026, is a two-week, immersive experience designed to support first-time-in-college students in their academic, social, and personal transition to college. Participants will gain early exposure to college-level expectations, hands-on STEM learning, and career exploration — all at no cost thanks to a generous sponsorship by ExxonMobil Beaumont.

The program, capped at 30 students, will run Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the LIT campus in Beaumont. Students accepted into the program will benefit from:

  • A STEM-focused bootcamp and exploration of multiple programs of study
  • Instruction from dynamic instructors and subject matter experts
  • Academic advising and career planning support
  • Participation in LIT’s New Student Orientation
  • Introduction to college-level pedagogy and academic expectations
  • Opportunities to engage with business and industry partners, including ExxonMobil-supported STEM initiatives
  • Completion of the DORI 0200 College Success course
  • Free Texas Success Initiative (TSI) test preparation, if needed

Program officials emphasize that the experience is both competitive and comprehensive, designed to build confidence, strengthen connections between education and industry, and give students a significant head start in STEM careers.

Applications for the program are open through April 30, 2026, and interested students may apply directly at: https://www.lit.edu/student-success/stem-summer-bridge-program.
