Credit Where Credit’s Due

Students and parents gathered in the Beaumont United Jackson Performing Arts Center

Students at Beaumont United and West Brook got a head start on college—while on a high school campus. On Monday, April 6, 2026, Beaumont ISD hosted a joint meeting to show students how to “bank” college credit while still in high school, spotlighting Advanced Placement and dual credit courses that can turn high school classes into a jumpstart on their future.

The informational session, held at the Beaumont United High School Jackson Performing Arts Center, focused on Advanced Placement and dual credit opportunities available through the district’s Advanced Academics programs.

District and campus leaders explained that students can earn college credit in two primary ways: Advanced Placement courses and dual credit courses. These programs are part of Beaumont ISD’s Advanced Academics offerings, which include Pre-Advanced coursework, AP classes, and dual credit opportunities designed to prepare students for college-level rigor.

During the meeting, families received information on eligibility criteria, including academic prerequisites and performance expectations. Students must meet specific academic standards, such as strong course grades and readiness indicators, before enrolling in advanced coursework. The session also highlighted the importance of responsibility, time management and commitment required to succeed in college-level classes while in high school.

Leaders emphasized that participating in these programs can provide significant benefits, including reduced college costs, increased academic confidence and a stronger transition into postsecondary education.

“There were 144 families represented - the largest turnout of families I've ever seen in attendance for an academic meeting, said Olivia Douglas, Beaumont United College Career and Military Readiness Coordinator. The evening was informative and engaging, and I look forward to a great increase in AP & dual credit enrollment for the Fall 2026 semester.

Families are encouraged to visit the district website to learn more about Advanced Placement and dual credit opportunities.
