Students at Paul Brown Learning Center explored a wide range of career opportunities during the school’s Career Day on March 26, 2026, as local professionals and community leaders gathered to share their expertise and experiences.

The event, coordinated by biology teacher and science chair Helen Tegbe, brought together representatives from industries including healthcare, law, education, energy, media, and public service. Tegbe said she volunteered to lead the effort during a staff meeting when no one initially stepped forward.

“I’m excited, and I know that our kids will really enjoy learning about different career opportunities,” Tegbe said. “Maybe some of them will find something that sparks an interest in them and inspires their future career path. This is a great opportunity for our kids to see what others are doing in our community.”

Tegbe credited a dedicated team of staff members who met after school to help organize the event. “Our team and staff members are absolutely awesome,” she said.

Career Day attendees included professionals from organizations such as Exxon Mobil, IBM, Baylor Genetics, Lamar Institute of Technology, Sinclair Broadcasting, and the City of Beaumont Fire Department, among many others. Participants engaged with students through discussions about their career paths, daily responsibilities, and the education and skills required for success.

The event aimed to provide students with meaningful exposure to career possibilities while building connections with local leaders. Hope Barker, an English III and IV teacher, emphasized the importance of early career exploration.

“With many of our youth plagued with ideas of uncertainty, we decided what better way to promote success than to host a job fair with local and community stakeholders,” Barker said. “This job fair will provide our students with valuable opportunities for career exploration, networking, and skill development, helping them transition into an ever-changing world, college, career, or military ready.”

Students said the experience offered both clarity and motivation. Senior Andrew Deroune noted that the event helped him think more intentionally about his future.

“The job fair will help me find a specific job tailored to my skill set,” Deroune said. “I believe it will not only help me find a job, but a career that will mold me into becoming a successful adult.”

Organizers say the success of Career Day reflects the strength of community partnerships and a shared commitment to preparing students for life beyond the classroom.
