The Young Men’s Business League, in partnership with the Beaumont Independent School District, will host high school basketball teams from across Texas and Louisiana this week as the South Texas Shootout returns for its 73rd year.

The three-day tournament started Thursday and runs through Saturday, with games played at Beaumont United and West Brook high school gyms. Beaumont United and West Brook split hosting duties Thursday, with all games shifting to West Brook for Friday and Saturday. Tipoffs are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day.

Founded in 1952 as the YMBL Cage Tournament, the event has grown into one of Southeast Texas’ premier high school basketball showcases. Over the decades, the Shootout has drawn many of the region’s top programs and featured players who later advanced to standout college and professional careers.

The tournament is recognized as one of the top high school basketball events in the nation and stands as the YMBL’s third-longest-running project. The organization sponsors several youth initiatives annually in support of the local community.
