BISD K9 Unit

Meet K9 Bleu

Beaumont ISD Police Department’s newest officer K9 Bleu, an explosive detection certified german shepherd, has graduated from the Houston K9 Academy and began working with the District on August 16, 2019.

“We determined that a result of the recent gun violence, and in terms of public safety for our students, staff and guests at our schools and facilities that having an Explosive Weapons Detection canine would be in our District's best interest,” said BISD Police Chief Joseph Malbrough.

Bleu and his handler, Corporal Kenderick Hartfield, are now both nationally certified with the National Narcotic Detector Dog Association. The team has already been hard at work keeping the students and staff of BISD safe.

“Bleu has been a phenomenal asset in his first week with our department,” said Malbrough. “He demonstrated his life saving abilities this past week, when he was deployed to search and clear our District high schools after a bomb threat was received.”

Bleu is one of two explosive detection canines in the area and the first in BISD history.

“We are blessed and very fortunate to have Officer Bleu in our department,” said Malbrough.
