RDSPD Referrals
A student's parent or legal guardian, school personnel, or another person involved in the education or care of a student can make a referral for special education when there is a suspected hearing loss, whether permanent or fluctuating, that is having an adverse affect on the student's educational performance.
Referrals may be made in writing or by telephone to the SOUTHEAST TEXAS RDSPD office or any special education department of one of the member school districts or charter schools.
The following is required for the determination of eligibility as a student under Deaf and Hard of Hearing:
- A current audiological assessment by a licensed audiologist showing a documented hearing loss, whether permanent or fluctuating.
- A Full Individual Evaluation (FIE) completed by a multidisciplinary team that identifies an educational need for specially designed instruction. The team must include but is not limited to the following personnel:
- Certified Teacher of the Deaf
- Certified Speech-Language Pathologist
- Educational Diagnostician
