Welcome to Health Services

The mission of the BISD Health Services Department is the achievement and maintenance of good health to ensure maximum success in education. Today, more than ever, schools must assume a leadership role in the attainment of this goal.  In the traditional role, the school must provide learning experiences which guide students toward reaching full capacity as individuals who make responsible decisions about personal, family, and community health.  It is the responsibility of the school to provide an environment conducive to the promotion and maintenance of health.

As more has been discovered about learning problems, it has become the responsibility of the school to detect and to achieve remediation or rehabilitation of those health problems that impede learning.  The responsibility for the care of children lies primarily with the parents.  The obligations of the School Health Department are health appraisal of the child; informing and interpreting the results to the parents; encouraging, motivating and supporting their efforts to follow through on the recommendations of the educational and health teams so each child can perform at his maximum level.

We supplement but we are not a substitution for health care that parents should provide for their children.
