Welcome from the Principal

  • Welcome and welcome back, Dishman Families!

I’m Kareem Nelson, Principal of Dishman Elementary. Home of the Eagles! On behalf of the entire faculty and staff, I want to let you know that we are thrilled with the opportunity to capture, engage, and grow your children!  As I begin my first year at Dishman, I am particularly grateful for the blessing of this community of staff, students and families. Despite these unprecedented times in our world, community and school, I’m optimistic that we will persevere and have a successful academic year. I am eager to see the gains that each student will make academically and socially.

We have had many hours of good discussion about how the campus will meet the safety needs of our students. Hard work and much thought went into the planning for a safe opening of school and to implement best practices to mitigate the risks associated with Covid-19. Our classrooms have been modified to increase social distancing; signage has been installed throughout the building to guide students. This year a strong emphasis is placed on social-emotional learning as we continue to implement the SEL framework and practices. It is important that we reach the whole child.

Partnering and building relationships with families will be crucial this year as we face many obstacles due to the global pandemic. I appreciate your support as you work with our teachers and staff to ensure that your child receives what he/she needs to be safe and successful here at Dishman. We encourage families to stay connected and informed by following our district website and Facebook page for important updates and information.

We value our partnership with families as we navigate these challenging times together. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with questions or concerns. Stay safe!

    Sincerely,

    Kareem Nelson, M.Ed.
