BISD is Ready to ROAR!

On Thursday, November 12, 2015, Beaumont ISD launched the ROAR community reading partnership program as one of the many initiatives being undertaken by the district to promote reading at an early age.

ROAR! is a partnership between the Beaumont community and BISD. The goal of the program is to have all BISD second graders reading at or above grade level by the end of the year by pairing them with volunteers who will assist them in improving their reading skills. BISD, in partnership with our community, wishes to instill a love of reading at an early age and provide them with positive attention and learning outcomes.

The success of the program depends on not just the participation of BISD faculty and staff, but on the community as a whole. Strong reading skills are the building blocks to increased student success. The district is calling on all community members to get involved in this exciting program. Through community and parental involvement we can ensure the success of the Reach Out And Read initiative.

Volunteering is simple. We are asking for companies, community organizations, campus organizations, retirees, parents, grandparents, and anyone who would be willing to give 30 minutes (or more) of their time being read to and helping to improve the reading skills of BISD students. Training will be provided to volunteers giving them the skills they need to better assist the students as they work with them.

Together as a community we can build a brighter future and instill the love of learning at an early age. Join us as we ROAR!
