Lucas PreK Celebrates MLK Day

Beaumont ISD’s Lucas Pre-K students marched in time to the beat of drums in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Birthday.

Central Medical Magnet High School Drum Majors and Drum Line participated in the event leading the Pre-K students in a parade around Lucas Campus. Close to 100 parents and community members showed up to watch the students, some caring posters displaying King’s message.

The annual King march began more than 12 years ago with then Southerland Head-start.

“They relived Dr. King Dreams,” said Valencia Greenwood, Lucas Pre-K principal. "Because many of their age they are too small to walk in the 4-mile city parade, so this is a way to incorporate them into the celebration,” Greenwood added.

The Parade ended a week long culmination of events surrounding the slain civil rights leader’s birthday.
