Odom Excels on the PSAT

The PSAT/NMSQT (or National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) is a preliminary version of the SAT. Not only does the PSAT help prepare students to take the SAT or ACT, a great score on the PSAT can also open the door to National Merit Scholarships and other awards. With $180 million dollars in scholarships awarded to students that achieve high scores on the PSAT, the performance on this exam can help students earn scholarship dollars that change the direction of their college planning. The PSAT is much more than a practice test.  A new PSAT launched in October 2015 and is 2 hours and 45 minutes long.  It tests skills in Reading, Writing, and Math. The highest score possible on the PSAT is 1520.

All middle school students took the PSAT in October 2015.  Odom Academy’s Mean Total Score was 824!  Nationally, the score was 801, 799 in the state of Texas, and 770 in the Beaumont Independent School District.

 Odom Students

“I am incredibly proud of our students.  Their scores show that they are on track for college,” said Tillie Hickman, Principal of Odom Academy.  “The high scores also indicate that the students are very mature and understand the importance of taking every opportunity to move forward in their education."

Congratulations to Odom Academy!
