BISD Celebrates National School Lunch Week
National School Lunch Week (NSLW) is October 10-14, 2016 and recognizes the importance of a healthy school lunch on a child’s life both inside and outside of the classroom.
To help garner increased awareness with parents, administrators and media about the importance of school meals and the role played by school nutrition professionals, BISD campuses had special guests and activities throughout the week. For example, BISD Director of Special Projects Robert Calvert (pictured above) enjoyed a day in the South Park Middle School kitchen.
Fletcher Elementary celebrated 'Our Lunch Prepares us for Success!’. Students and staff wore their favorite college t-shirts on October 10 to promote advanced education. Cafeteria Manager Florestine Green invited BISD Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Schools Dr. Matilda Orozco to discuss healthy eating with the students during their lunch time.
School nutrition programs play a critical role in ensuring all students receive nutritious lunches. According to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention, schools are in a unique position to promote healthy eating and help ensure appropriate food and nutrient intake among students.
KFDM-TV News Anchor Tiffany Murphy joined students at Curtis Elementary for lunch.
