Central Tailgates for Reading
Tailgate for Reading is an effort by the Central English Language Arts and Reading Department to engage parents in supporting literacy. According to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), a division of the U.S. Department of Education, students who do more reading at home are better readers and perform better in other content areas.
Tailgate for Reading is an effort to increase reading comprehension levels. “It is our goal to get as many parents involved in encouraging our students to read more outside of school,” said Central Assistant Principal Rolander Fontenot. “It is proven that students who read at least 20 to 30 minutes outside of school are more successful academically.”
The event was held November 29, 2016, 4-5pm outside the boys gym before the basketball game against Silsbee. Parents were encouraged to stop by and enjoy snacks and games and to sign up to encourage their child(ren) to read more.
