West Brook Students Chosen for RYLA
Six West Brook Juniors have been named for Rotary District 5910 Camp Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) in January 2017. Awardees include Billy Bin, Ty Fuselier, Anna Norman, Kaylie Overstreet, Jules Perrodin and Brianna Vaglica.
RYLA is a leadership program coordinated by Rotary Clubs around the globe. Each year, thousands of young people participate in this program. Young people ages 13–30 are sponsored by Rotary Clubs to attend the event run by the club's district committee.
“I nominated eight juniors and six were chosen to participate in a Leadership Academy,” said West Brook 11th Grade Counselor Stella Greer. “I am super proud of these kids and love to share in their accomplishments.”
Beaumont Rotary Club received applications from 25 area candidates. “Applications were read and scored by eight volunteers from Beaumont Rotary using a five point rubric. Scores were totaled and averaged across all eight of the screeners, providing us with final scores ranging from 33.500 to 20.250,” explained RYLA 2015 Chair Jim Baxter. “We thank the school counselors for putting applications in the hands of such extraordinary student leaders.”
