BISD Driver Wins 1st Place at Bus "Road"-eo
The Southeast Texas Association for Pupil Transportation School Bus Safety Roadeo was held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Lumberton ISD. School bus drivers from area districts attended and competed in the event. The Roadeo consists of a conventional division and transit division, each with 12 competitive events for school bus drivers. The events include parallel parking, offset alley, diminishing clearance and straight line, which involves aligning the bus to where the front and rear dual wheels travel between a row of tennis balls without touching them. Competitors also were required to perform a pre-trip inspection and complete a written examination.
Sabrina Willis of Beaumont ISD won 1st place in the Transit Division with a total score of 556. Ms. Willis also received the second highest score among competitors on the general knowledge exam and the highest among competitors in the pre-trip inspection. Ms. Willis will now travel to the state roadeo competition hosted by the Texas Association for Pupil Transportation in Frisco, TX on June 23, 2017.
"The short green trophy is for winning 1st Place in Transit and the tall trophy travels with the District/driver who places 1st," said BISD Transportation Supervisor Bennie Huckabay. "Every 3 years, the traveling trophy is retired. BISD has one more year to retire it!"
