Parents Learn the Importance of Kindergarten Transition

Parents of pre-kindergarten students attended a transition training at Bingman Head Start May 22. Two Texas consultants from Frog Street, which is an organization that helps teachers in the development of early childhood minds, guided parents with hands-on activities to stay involved in their children’s education. Claudia Castillo and Monica Falcon focused on pre-writing, reading and math to help build students vocabulary skills and prepare them for the transition towards Kindergarten. BISD Supervisor of Early Childhood Gwendolyn Lacy discussed the importance to promote school readiness and BISD Community Liaison Alberto Iglesias translated the training for Hispanic parents. Parents also created sensory bags to capture their children’s attention, while enjoying refreshments and door prizes.
