FAFSA Workshops Assist Seniors
Beaumont ISD hosted a workshop for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Saturday, October 7 at West Brook High School. Over 25 families participated in the workshop and received helpful tips on the application process.
According to the US Department of Education the office of Federal Student Aid provides more than $120 billion in federal student aid each year through grants, loans and work-study funds for college or vocational training.
The College and Career Readiness Coordinators from each high school helped to coordinate the event. There were also several volunteers on hand from Lamar Institute of Technology and Hispanic Academic, Career, and Education Readiness (HACER).
"The FAFSA is an important gateway to Federal Pell Grants and student loan opportunities. Additionally, universities utilize FAFSA information for financial aid offers," said West Brook College and Career Readiness Coordinator Karen Martinez. "Some scholarship committees require completion of the FAFSA for scholarship eligibility."
A second workshop is scheduled for Saturday, October 14, 2017 in the Ozen High School library from 10:00am to 1:00pm.
