Central JAG Students Visit Washington D.C.
Central Medical Magnet High School students in the Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) program attended the JAG National Student Leadership Academy November 28–December 1 in Washington D.C. The event was attended by over 850 students from around the country who engaged in team-building and leadership workshops, observed public speaking competitions, learned employability skills and networked with governors, mayors and students from other states. The Leadership Awards Luncheon included a keynote speech by Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant who is also the JAG Chairman. Students also toured the U.S. Capitol, Arlington National Cemetery, the Washington Monument, the National Air and Space Museum and many historic sights.
“Our JAG students looked great and represented our state with class. We are very proud of them,” said JAG-Beaumont Job Specialist Shamine Cormier. “It excites me as a specialist to see our students make the connections between being a leader and how it translates into College and Career choices.”
To go on the trip, students submitted an application, were recommended, and interviewed to become an executive member of the Jobs for America's Graduates Beaumont Career Association. Officers were chosen to attend and included Emily Alvarez, Sanara Cormier, Derek Gordon and Mason Senigaur. They were joined on the trip by Cormier and Central Principal Lachandra Cobb-Eaglin. Entergy Inc. along with Beaumont ISD provided an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C for students to attend the National Student Leadership Academy.
