BISD Celebrates National School Breakfast Week

To encourage more families to take advantage of the healthy choices available for school breakfast, Beaumont ISD will celebrate National School Breakfast Week March 5-9.

Busy weekday mornings make it a challenge for many families to find time for a healthy breakfast. However, US Department of Agriculture data shows that more and more students are starting their day with a nutritious breakfast in their school cafeterias. The School Breakfast Program currently serves more than 14 million children every day. Studies show that students who eat school breakfast are more likely to:

  •         Reach higher levels of achievement in math
  •         Score higher on standardized tests
  •         Have better concentration, memory and alertness
  •         Have improved attendance, behavior, and academic performance
  •         Maintain a healthy weight

The National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) campaign theme, “I Heart School Breakfast”, reminds the entire community that school breakfast provides a healthy and energizing start to the day for students.

National School Breakfast Week was launched in 1989 to raise awareness of the availability of the School Breakfast Program, a federally assisted meal program operating in public and non-profit private schools and residential child care institutions since 1975.
