Symphony of Southeast Texas Educates Students

The Symphony of Southeast Texas recently visited students at Charlton-Pollard, Fletcher, Regina-Howell and Blanchette Elementary. Members of the instrument families of strings, woodwinds and brass provided a 30-minute program that included listening to Mozart, clapping along to “My Darling Clementine” and learning the history and origins of different music.  

The Symphony announced a new concept in their education programs early this year focusing on a graduated method of instruction for students. Visits with 3rd and 4th grade students were the first of small chamber ensembles and focused on a combination of introduction and performance. “Our goal with this program is to prepare students for instrument selection,” explained Symphony Executive Director Douglas Fair. “Working with students at this level prepares them for phase two of our efforts, which is our full symphony orchestra concert, which they will experience in 5th and 6th grade.”
