BISD Gymnast Competes at National Competition

The BISD varsity gymnastics team recently competed at the State Championship. Ozen seniors Rani Bentley and Marcus Wilson both qualified to compete in every event. Wilson placed 10th on Vault and was selected to represent Texas in the National Championships at Arizona State University were he placed 4th on Rings and 7th on Vault. “The other competitors were all watching Marcus. Even though he has only been in the sport for 4 years, he has more strength elements and difficulty than the guys who have been competing for the majority of their life,” explained BISD gymnastics coach Brian McDonald. “We had the opportunity to spend a great deal of time with some of the other Texas team members. It was an amazing experience and one that Marcus and I will always cherish.”

BISD students were also recognized by the Beaumont Enterprise as recipients of the Super Gold Athlete Award. Wilson was named the top male gymnast in the Golden Triangle and West Brook freshman Sentavia McDaniel the top female.

When asked about his remarkable year in gymnastics, Wilson replied, “If you can’t fight through failure, then you won’t ever be successful.”
