BISD Bilingual and ESL Summer School
Beaumont ISD is offering Bilingual and ESL summer school to provide high-quality instruction in reading, math and language development. The program is free for English learners entering K-2 who are enrolled in bilingual or ESL classes for the 2018-19 school year.
To go along with instruction, students were provided with a variety of enrichment experiences. Real-life heroes from the Beaumont Fire Department recently visited participants to show the equipment they wear, as well as a fire truck. “This is an important activity because in a real fire rescue, the firefighter can look scary to young children and they may hide from them,” said BISD Bilingual/ESL Summer School Administrator Delores Gatica. “The demonstration showed students each step of putting on the equipment. The firefighter was able to walk around and high-five the kids while wearing the mask and other items so they would know not to be scared when help arrives.”
Students will also have the opportunity to experience a cultural tasting, visit from a local dentist and 4th of July cookout. The program runs through July 6, 2018 at Caldwood Elementary.
