BISD Business Partner Roundup
Beaumont ISD hosted the annual Business Partner Roundup on July 26 in the BISD Boardroom. The event was an opportunity for campus principals and partners in education to discuss goals for the 2018-19 school year.
“I enjoyed seeing such an array of businesses participate in the roundup,” said Amelia Elementary Interim Principal Dimitrise Haynes. “It sent a message that we are not alone in what we do, but others from our community are invested in BISD students' success.” Partners in education were also pleased with the event. “It was great to meet face to face with the principals and BISD Administration and find out what campuses and students really need,” said Entergy Lead Customer Service Manager Pam Williams. “The energy in the room from both the school and our fellow corporate sponsors was encouraging as we all work together for the good of our leaders of tomorrow. The fun and good food was a bonus.”
After a welcome from Dr. Shannon Allen, BISD Associate Superintendent for Secondary Administration, a program overview was presented by Nakisha Burns, BISD Community and Media Relations Director. New procedures regarding donations and requests, along with sponsorship and volunteer opportunities, were discussed. Jenny Angelo, BISD Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, presented an overview of a few BISD initiatives from last school year that included the Read-A-Thons, Parent Nights and the recent H-E-B Reading Partnership.
“The event was outstanding! A room full of top business leaders from our city all coming together with the purpose of supporting the achievement and success of our students,” said Angelo. “We had so many participants who were excited about being a part of recognitions and devoting time to working directly with our students.”
BISD partners in education grew from 34 in the 2016-17 school year to 110 in 2017-18 and 125 set for 2018-19, with many organizations adding additional campuses to support. “The food was fabulous and I enjoyed getting to visit with my schools outside of the campus,” said Scarlett Brekel with RE/MAX Beaumont. “Antioch has wrapped its arms around Blanchette Elementary and Odom Academy,” said Youth Pastor James Mable Jr.
Working together, we can strive for higher student achievement, increased parental involvement and greater community awareness. To become a BISD partner in education, visit www.bmtisd.com/community.
