Food Bank and Education First Fund Two More Cardinal NESTS
Homer Drive and Guess Elementary Schools are next to receive a Cardinal NEST learning lab. The Southeast Texas Food Bank and Education First Federal Credit Union are sponsoring the innovative, high-tech spaces on the campuses.
In partnership with the Lamar University (LU) Office of Community Relations Cardinals SOAR organization, Beaumont ISD has previously celebrated eight announcements regarding the NEST. These spaces are used for students to engage and explore reading, STEM and promote creative thinking. The lab area has walls covered in detailed depictions of the students' community, which supports social-emotional learning, flex seating in stations throughout the room and books, supplemental reading resources and modern technology.
The Southeast Texas Food Bank is sponsoring the Homer Drive Elementary Cardinal NEST. "We have great plans for this amazing resource that will partner nicely with the LU/BISD initiative," said Barbara Newhouse, Southeast Texas Food Bank President and CEO. "We are pleased to sponsor Homer Drive in honor of Mary Simon, who leads our children's programming and has long supported all efforts in BISD related to children."
Education First Federal Credit Union is sponsoring the Guess Elementary Cardinal NEST. The union is working with LU to incorporate their C.A.F.E. (Center for Advanced Financial Experimentation) Literacy program into the NEST curriculum for the spring semester at all BISD elementary campuses.
"Education is at the heart of who we are and is the inspiration for a lot of what we do. Through the partnership with SOAR, we've been able to see the work that goes into these NESTs," said Faith Brammer, Education First Community Relations Coordinator. "To say that we are thrilled to sponsor the Cardinal Nest at Guess Elementary is an understatement. They have been an important business partner of ours since 2016, and we're happy to support the campus in whatever capacity we can. We're excited to see this new creative learning space and to continue to support financial literacy in the classroom."
Homer Drive and Guess join Pietzsch-MacArthur, Blanchette, Charlton-Pollard, Amelia, Martin, Fletcher, Dishman and Regina-Howell as BISD Cardinal NEST campuses.
