Bruin Homecoming Excitement at West Brook
West Brook High School celebrated Homecoming with events all week leading up to the football game and dance.
An evening block party that included food trucks, campus organizations and games kicked off the festivities on Monday. The parade, which featured athletes, band members, cheerleaders, Homecoming duchesses and more, traveled from the campus to Durley Stadium for a fun-filled pep rally.
A Charity Scavenger Hunt was hosted for the first time on Tuesday with students collecting items for the Salvation Army, Some Other Place, The Christmas Bureau, Anayat House and the Women and Children's Shelter.
Date Appreciation was held on Wednesday and Thursday featured a dinner and movie night on the front lawn, hosted by the PTA and Project Graduation. "We had technical difficulties with the movie, however, the most heard phrase of the night was 'This was better than the movie,'" said Student Activities Director Tisha Smith. "Our bruins had a front lawn dance party."
On Friday morning, the football team, cheerleaders and drill team visited Curtis and Regina-Howell to welcome elementary students to campus. The fun continued with face-painting in the library.
Dress-up days included Rappers vs. Rockers, Twin Day, Decades Day, Country vs. Country Club and, of course, West Brook red and blue spirit day. Feeder schools Curtis, Dishman, Regina-Howell and Vincent hosted dress-up days as well.
"This week has been truly the best! We had a great turnout for our parade, pep rally and block party. The food trucks were a hit as well," said Smith. "The kids have been really diving into the dress-up days. It has been so exciting to see them have fun."
The Bruins take on Kingwood High School Friday, preceded by the Homecoming Court presentation. The dance will be held Saturday in the campus gym.
