Community Bilingual Night Set for October 26
On Tuesday, October 26, 2021, the BISD Bilingual and ESL Department will host its annual virtual Bilingual Parent Resource Night. The informative event will spotlight opportunities available within the district’s Bilingual and ESL programs.
“This is our sixth year having our Bilingual Night,” said Blanca Jones, BISD Bilingual Director. “We used to have the event at the bilingual campuses. But this year is our second year of doing it virtually due to the pandemic.”
Starting at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, festivities will begin with a drive-thru at the Annex Building, 4315 Concord Road. The department will distribute helpful bilingual materials and resources with participants.
“One of the main goals of this event is to inform the community about the advantages of the Bilingual and ESL programs in BISD,” said Alberto Iglesias, BISD Title III Community Liaison.
During the evening, the bilingual team will discuss the variety of trainings and classes for parents that the District offers during the school year, such as English language, computing/technology, Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and college awareness, among many others.
After the meeting opens at 6 p.m. with greetings from Jones and BISD Superintendent Dr. Shannon Allen, the virtual presentation will feature Dr. Hector Flores, Dean of Students at Lamar University who has direct administrative oversight of the Setzer Student Center, Recreational Sports and facility and student conduct. Flores will highlight and feature contributions made by individuals of Hispanic descent in the Beaumont community. In addition, the General Consulate of Mexico will provide important information about the services they provide.
The community is encouraged to join the Zoom presentation: https://bit.ly/3AhBqR3. For more information, contact the Bilingual department at 409-617-5220.
