BISD Financial Aid Assistance Available September 28
Beaumont ISD will host a Financial Aid Information Night on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the BISD Boardroom, 3395 Harrison Ave.
Assistance will be provided for parents and students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form to apply for financial aid for college or graduate school. The FAFSA form must be completed so that the student's financial need can be determined.
“A student with a high financial need will more likely be awarded grants and scholarships that are need-based, such as the Pell Grant,” said Beaumont United College, Career and Military Readiness (CCMR) Coordinator Olivia Douglas. “Most colleges also determine who the recipients of their need-based scholarships are based on the information provided on the FAFSA form.”
Submitting the FAFSA form is a new graduation requirement. “FAFSA completion or an opt-out form is required for all seniors in order to graduate,” said West Brook CCMR Coordinator Jennifer Chambers. “Many scholarships require that a FAFSA form be completed and colleges will hold an acceptance.”
Douglas said having the FAFSA form submitted early before the January 15, 2023, Texas priority deadline will set students up to receive the most funds possible. “It's all about securing funds for their students' college education,” she said.
The FAFSA information night will equip families to be ready when the form officially becomes available on October 1, 2022. Parents need to bring an email address for their senior and themself, along with social security numbers. Assistance will be available to help parents complete their Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID, which is necessary for the electronic signature in the FAFSA completion process. Once the form is available, they will also need their 2021 income tax information.
West Brook will host a workshop to provide additional assistance from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, in the computer lab, room #J21; Beaumont United on Thursday, October 6, in the campus library, 5:30-7 p.m.; and Early College High School on Monday, October 24, 5:30-8:30 p.m., in computer labs 207 and 311.
