Guess Paints Stories with a Twist
Guess Elementary hosted “Storytelling and Painting with a Twist” to bring families together for a fun activity and help promote literacy awareness on November 15, 2022.
“The purpose of the event is to extend teaching outside of the classroom and tap into another level of creativity with our students,” said Parent Liaison LaRisha Goodman.
Students were asked to bring an Accelerated Reader (AR) book to the event, which they would use as inspiration to paint their favorite book character. Educational tips, snacks and prizes were shared and third grade teacher Ingrid Reado shared the importance of reading and comprehension.
“I appreciated receiving information on the meaning and guidelines for AR books,” said Jada Jefferson, parent. “The opportunity to paint with my child and also interact with other parents, students and staff was a great experience. It was an awesome event.”
Family Literacy Nights are one of the many ways the campus partners with families to ensure academic success.
“When parents and guardians are informed, they are more likely to work with and support not only their child, but teachers as well,” said Goodman.
