Tucked in Tuesdays Teams Up with Legacy's Little Readers
Homer Drive Elementary principal Dr. Belinda George recently became a Legacy Community Health Little Readers Champion. The partnership is based on wanting to instill a love for reading in children.
“It bridges the gap between the community and the school,” stated George. “Sometimes people see them as two different entities. This way, everyone is on the same page. If I go to Legacy and get a book and then see my principal with the same book, I think it helps.”
Legacy has a readers program in which different stages, students receive a book when they visit the doctor and a prescription from the doctor to read. To learn more or to donate to the program, click here.
Legacy commits to encouraging literacy for students. Before the winter break, the company dropped off a book for every Homer Drive student to read over the holiday. The book was also an accelerated reader book and students could receive points.
“I love that as doctors, they are looking after the well-being of the whole student,” expressed George. “Anyone can be a champion for Little Readers by making a minute video about the importance of literacy, and then it will go out to their email list.”
George and Legacy Health will team up again soon to read another book live on her “Tucked in Tuesdays” program.
In the meantime, don’t miss the live feed on Facebook on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. February will feature black authors in honor of Black History Month.
