Dishman Students Floss To Success
Students at Dishman Elementary participated in fun activities to promote dental awareness with their business partner DentaQuest.
The American Dental Association celebrates National Children's Dental Health Month each February. The month-long health observance brings together thousands of dedicated professionals, healthcare providers and educators to promote the benefits of good oral health to children, their caregivers, teachers and many others.
DentaQuest held a coloring contest for prekindergarten through fifth grade and an "Are you Flossin?" guessing game contest for third through fifth. Winning students received a bag of prizes, including an electric toothbrush set, activity books, Play-Doh and more.
"I was excited when I heard my name called," said fourth-grader Zooey Garcia. "I love my prizes."
The recognition month provides an opportunity for DentaQuest to reach students about the importance of protecting their smiles. "Developing good dental health habits at an early age, including scheduling regular dental visits, helps children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums," said DentaQuest Texas Member Advocate Specialist Susan Gonzalez.
"Mrs. Gonzalez is an asset to the Dishman family and helps in any way that she can to ensure that the students and staff are supported," stated principal Kareem Nelson. "We appreciate the partnership with DentaQuest and their assistance with providing fun activities to encourage positive oral health habits."
DentaQuest will hold similar activities at Caldwood, Fletcher and Guess Elementary in the near future. "Children's teeth are meant to last a lifetime, and a healthy smile is important to their self-esteem," said Gonzalez. "With proper care, a balanced diet and regular dental visits, their teeth can remain healthy and strong."
