CTE Celebrates Industry-Based Certifications at Inaugural Choice Awards
The Beaumont ISD Career and Technology Education (CTE) Department hosted the inaugural CTE Choice Awards at the Beaumont Event Centre to honor graduating students who have also passed their industry-based certification.
A red carpet hour prior to the program gave students the opportunity to capture memories in a photo booth and visit vendor exhibits. The event was live-streamed and students had the chance to participate in red carpet interviews.
“When I became Director of CTE in 2018, my ultimate goal was to showcase CTE in a grand fashion,” said Dr. Donna Prudhomme, Director of CTE. “I knew that I wanted the event to be really special. The beautiful floral arrangements were created by our floral design students under the leadership of Stephanie Hoppe and the delicious food was prepared by our culinary students under the supervision of Chef Bettina Evans.”
Ninety CTE students received academic and special awards throughout the night and 85 students received their industry-based certification cords to wear at graduation.
“Students who earn an industry-based certification have demonstrated the knowledge-base and skills that show mastery in a specific industry and are evidence that a student has learned a valuable skill set,” said Prudhomme. “Seniors who earned an A-F Industry-Based Certification received a green cord that symbolizes an extra honorable badge of excellence.”
FFA and West Brook FCCLA received the outstanding Career and Technical Student Organization performance award. In conclusion, West Brook junior Eric Murray was named CTE Student of the Year, and Career and Technology Center/LIT instructor Troy Burnett was named CTE Teacher of the Year.
“In addition to those honored at the CTE Choice Awards, we are proud to have a total of 152 senior students who passed their industry-based certifications and we are still testing until the end of the school year,” said Prudhomme.
