Cruz and Lopez Named Texas Top 10 ESL Students
Summit K12 announced Martin Elementary third-graders Miguel Martinez Cruz and Jaydeen Lopez as 2021-22 Texas Top 10 English Second Language (ESL) Students of the Year for the Listening Domain program.
Winners are the top performers from over 500,000 Texas students using Summit K12, and this is Beaumont ISD’s first recognition of this kind.
“We hope that, after this experience, we can motivate more students and teachers to follow the same path to excellence,” said Blanca Jones, BISD Bilingual/ESL/Foreign Languages Director.
The Summit K12 TELPAS Readiness program is a district initiative, implemented in the 2020-21 school year, to support language acquisition and practice for emergent Bilingual students. For the 2021-22 school year, 2,302 students benefited from the program.
“Our department is beyond proud of our students and our teacher, Nancy Tellez. This recognition means that all our students can aim high regarding their goals,” said Jones. “Effort and dedication pay well. It is not easy to compete with over 500,000 Texas students and be in the top 10 in the state in this category that strive and reach this kind of achievement. It also means that we have educators that care enough to support differentiating instruction, monitor student progress and support students in their journey to success.”
