Child Nutrition Kicks Off Summer Feeding Program
The Beaumont ISD Child Nutrition Department will kick off the 2022 Summer Feeding Program with a party at Pietzsch-MacArthur from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. June 8, 2022.
All children ages 1-18 are invited to dine on a fresh meal, munch on snacks and sweet treats and celebrate the start of summer. Lamar University’s Big Red and Lu and Borden’s Elsie the Cow will also make an appearance for photos and to greet families. Additionally, the South East Texas Food Bank will be handing out food goods from their truck in a drive-thru method.
“We are inviting all children/youth ages 1-18 to come in and enjoy lunch at our Kick-Off and for the remainder of the summer,” said Tiffany Eckenrod, BISD Director of Child Nutrition. “We do not ask for any ID at all, from children. In fact, they do not need to be residents of Beaumont or enrolled in Beaumont ISD. All children are asked to come dine with us.”
Children have the opportunity to receive meals for both breakfast and lunch at 14 sites throughout the community this summer. Click here for the complete schedule. (www.summerfood.org)
“When schools close for the summer many children do not get the foods or meals that they need. Children are set back when they miss meals over a span of time, during the summer,” said Eckenrod. “We want to help bridge that gap and provide both breakfast and lunch at numerous sites across our city.”
