Law Enforcement Flies High Above Curtis
Students at Sallie Curtis Elementary had the opportunity to visit with law enforcement officials and see a helicopter fly over and land at the campus on October 12, 2022.
For the Career and Technical Education event, Principal Cheryl Tripplett asked the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department to give their kindergarten, first grade and academics for life students an up-close look at their helicopter during the Fire Safety Event, and offered for all grade levels to see it as well.
“The Fire Safety and Law Enforcement program is part of the National Night Out Campaign,” said Counselor Kathryn Finch. “It was developed to enhance the relationship between community members and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of partnership.”
The goal of Fire Prevention Month is to raise fire safety awareness and help ensure our homes and families are protected. October is also National Crime Prevention month.
“Planning this amazing day at Sallie Curtis gives our students an up-close and personal opportunity to talk with law enforcement officials and see the things they use to keep us safe every day,” she said. “We thank all our first responders and safety officials who came out to share this special day.”
Students watched the helicopter land and, after the engine/propellers were turned off, grade levels rotated by it for class pictures with the pilot. A fire truck and SWAT tank were also on campus.
“The helicopter was really cool,” said first-grader Samuel Landry.
