Parading Their Pride: Fletcher Kicks Off Hispanic Heritage Month
Fletcher Elementary students showed off their finest Hispanic-inspired attire during an afternoon parade through the halls of their campus on this first day of Hispanic Heritage Month.
From September 15 – October 15, the United States recognizes the contributions of the more than 60 million Hispanic Americans, Latinos, Latinas, and Latinx-identifying people in the country. September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.
Hispanics make up 28% of Beaumont ISD and more than 50% of Fletcher’s students are English language learners. The campus is the location of the District’s Annual Bilingual Night, scheduled for Thursday, October 5, 2023, beginning at 6 p.m.
