Cougars Partner with ExxonMobil for Book Vending Machine Ribbon Cutting
The halls of Pietzsch-MacArthur Pre-K-8 Center were bustling with excitement and happiness on November 2, 2023, as they celebrated the ribbon-cutting of the book vending machine donated by the United Way of Beaumont and North Jefferson County. This event was made possible by a generous $5,000 donation from ExxonMobil Beaumont, making it a significant moment for the school, its students, and the community.
Principal Tamara Long, beaming with pride, expressed her gratitude for ExxonMobil’s generosity. “This book vending machine is more than just a vending machine; it is an opportunity for us to give students an additional avenue to fall in love with books. It is also a great tool for our campus to use in assisting [to] close reading gaps among our students.”
After remarks from Superintendent Dr. Shannon Allen, the ribbon-cutting was met with cheers and applause from students, teachers, parents, and ExxonMobil representatives. As the ribbon fell to the floor, the students rushed forward, tokens in hand, to explore the selection of books available. As an added bonus to the event, students were also able to enjoy a story read aloud by Jose’ Diaz, ExxonMobil Plant Operations Manager.
ExxonMobil Beaumont continues to make a strong commitment to supporting education and literacy initiatives. The company's sponsorship of a book vending machine at Pietzsch-MacArthur Pre-K-8 Center is a prime example of this commitment and highlights the positive impact of their partnership with the District. As the school year progresses, students at Pietzsch-MacArthur will have the opportunity to explore, learn, and grow with the help of this innovative addition to their campus.
