A Salute to Veterans

Campuses all over the district held special events and ceremonies honoring service men and women this week in recognition of Veteran’s Day, November 11.

One such activity took place at Sallie Curtis Elementary. 2nd Class Petty Officer Tara N. Parramore volunteered as a ROAR Guest Reader sharing the Thanksgiving-themed book, “Turkey Day”, to Katrina Janise's Kindergarten class. Parramore is a former Beaumont ISD student.

Henrietta Savoy, BISD's ROAR/Volunteer Coordinator, stated, "Ms. Parramore read with such enthusiasm and asked questions of the students to help solidify their comprehension of the story.  The students were very engaged and were asking when she would be coming back to read to them again."

Jenny Angelo, Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction, added, "We are thrilled to have engagement from our community, particularly former students of BISD who embrace the opportunity to come back into our schools and share their love of reading with our students."

ROAR Louder is an initiative that brings community members into our campuses to read to our students.  Volunteers may elect to work one day each week for 30 minutes with the same student or sign up to be a guest reader to a class of students.  For more information, contact Henrietta Savoy at hsavoy@bmtisd.com or check out our ROAR Louder page at https://www.bmtisd.com/ROAR
