STAC’ed In Their Favor
Top accomplishments, lessons learned, and things to be grateful for topped the list of topics explored at the final Superintendent’s Teacher Advisory Committee Meeting. The gathering, held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 in the BISD Boardroom, was the third meeting of the group for the 2023-2024 school year. The committee was formed to offer feedback to Superintendent Dr. Shannon Allen from the perspective of Beaumont ISD educators.
During the group discussion portion of the meeting, committee member Jermaine Cooper, an educator at the Paul A. Brown Learning Center, shared with fellow committee members that he made new connections with a different population of students this year. As a coach accustomed to interacting with male students, his outreach to female students this year put him in a “father figure” role with many of the girls on his campus, he shared. It’s something he says he’s glad he tried.
Dr. Allen shared end-of-year District accomplishments with the group, including BISD’s awarding of 1001 high school diplomas, recognition of 378 honor graduates, and offers of $12.4 million in scholarships for the Class of 2024. Allen told the group, “I don’t care what grade level you teach, what area of the organization you work in, this is your victory.”
