King Offers Robotics Curriculum
Coach Marko Johnson at King Middle School is teaching students a branch of technology that deals with design, construction, operation and application through building and coding two different types of robots.
“Robotics are very important due to their use in every aspect of life now,” said Johnson. “They are being used to flip burgers at McDonalds, control autonomous vehicles and assisting doctors in surgery, just to name a few.”
In Johnson’s class, students learn how to program and code on Code.org then transfer this knowledge to program the robots built. After exploring the robots, they learn about the sensors and programming through ‘brick coding’.
“My class gives students a chance to understand the importance of robotics and STEM through project-based learning (PBL),” said Johnson. While many middle school campuses offer extra-curricular robotics activities and clubs, King is the only campus offering a robotics class.
