Beaumont United Medical Students Receive Donation from Baptist
Baptist Hospital recently delivered a donation to students in the Beaumont United High School Medical Magnet Program. Fourteen lab coats were presented to juniors and 11 stethoscopes to seniors.
Baptist Hospital Director of Public Relations Mary Poole heard from a teacher that students needed jackets. Not only was she able to initiate the donation, but the monogramming as well. “Students do rotations at Baptist and we are happy to always be their partner for needed medical supplies,” said Poole. “It was an honor to be on campus for the presentation.”
The Medical Magnet Program is designed to improve student potential and prepare academically talented students for any of the medical professions and/or allied health fields. Incoming freshman and sophomore classes provide foundation coursework in the areas of medical history, medical language and the fundamental skills of healthcare. Students in the junior class attend clinical rotations at area hospitals where they observe and/or give assistance to professional healthcare personnel. The senior courses provide a more in-depth approach to two specific health care occupations, which are Certified Nursing Assistant and Certified Pharmacy Technician. The nursing program is a dual credit course in partnership with the Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) Nurse Aide Program and the Pharmacy Technician Program is in affiliation with the Kaduceus Hands-On Career Training Program.
“After successful completion of the practicum in these areas of study, our graduating senior students qualify to take an examination for licensure/certification in their respective fields of study,” said Beaumont United Medical Magnet Coordinator Lovette Martin-Davis.
