Marshall Volleyball Takes 1st Place
The Marshall Middle School Lady Bulldogs 8th grade volleyball team had the opportunity to participate in the Golden Triangle League Volleyball Tournament held at South Park Middle School on October 27. With a lot of bumping, setting and spiking, the ladies placed 1st in the tournament.
The team has been practicing and working hard since the season began in August. Head 8th grade Volleyball Coach Yolanda Smith, who has been leading players at Marshall for 20 years, loves working with the girls. “Coaching this group was a lot of fun. By the end of the season, all of my players improved on their game of volleyball,” said Smith. “Bump, set and spike! That's what we love to do!” As her players move on to high school next year, she hopes they will continue to pursue the game.
At the tournament, the team competed against six Beaumont ISD and two Port Arthur middle schools. "I am so proud of my players. All of them worked together as a team and dug deep down in their hearts to achieve this honor,” said Smith. "This is the District's second time hosting the tournament and we won 1st place both times.” Team players include Valeria Alfaro, Paige Harris, Faith Holtz, Kyana Sangil, Ally Thompson, Brielle Ward and Makayla West.
