West Brook Choir Students Advance to Area Competition
The West Brook High School choir competed in the Region 10 Pre-Area Texas All-State Choir auditions at Port Neches-Groves High School in November. Out of 22 students, 18 ranked in the top five chairs and advanced to the area auditions. Hope Msengi, Halle Stuberfield, Douglas Stone and Conner Cummings ranked first chair.
“I’ve been blessed to direct the choirs at West Brook for six years and this is a record amount of students to qualify for area,” said Director Jimmy Robertson. “They will be competing against students in the Houston area who they have not heard before, so it will be interesting to see what they bring to the table.” To prepare for the next round, qualifiers will attend extra after school practices and receive additional instruction by Baylor Director of Women's Choirs Dr. Stephen Gusukuma who will visit the campus soon.
The final round of area auditions will take place at The Woodlands High School on January 12. Students from regions nine, 10, 27 and 33 will compete for a spot in the 2019 Texas All-State Choir which will include five students from each of the four regions. The top 11 girls and nine boys per voice section will be placed in the choir.
