Visitors to Smith Middle School are enjoying new hallway displays from the inaugural Express Yourself Art Competition. Fourteen students entered the contest with the prompt: simply express yourself through art on a poster/canvas.
Winners included Adrianna Torres, Kazmalyle Bass, Aaliyah Dawson and Kyla Garrison, who earned a certificate of participation and a bag of goodies. Torres received a first place prize of an art set with supplies and sketch pads; second through fourth-place winners received a high-end sketchbook with color pencils.
Seventh-grade reading teacher Keshlae Baltrip said she was proud of her Smith champion scholars for their hard work and dedication. “My students are very aware of their strengths and weaknesses and are constantly challenging me to find another way for them to grasp all concepts not only in the classroom but in life as well,” said Baltrip.
